Wire is a communication application mainly focused on privacy. Wire is available for almost every platform Linux, Windows, Mac and mobile devices, its applications across all platforms uniformly use state-of-the-art encryption mechanisms that are recognized as reliable by experts and the community.
Wire offers end-to-end encrypted text messaging, video, voice calls and media, all conversation are private and secured, all conversations are available on multiple devices and platforms without weakening security.
Conversation content is encrypted with strong encryption on the sender’s device and only decrypted on the recipient’s device. Wire doesn’t hold the decryption keys and our software contains no backdoor. Your data is your data — Wire has no access to it. Users can verify digital identity of other users using fingerprint comparison.
Text messages and pictures use Proteus for end-to-end encryption. Voice and video calls use the WebRTC standard. More precisely DTLS is used for key negotiation and authentication and SRTP is used for encrypted media transport. The encryption works transparently in the background and doesn’t need to be activated first. It doesn’t get in the way of usability or reduce the feature set and avoids the complexity that is common to secure messengers.
