Ubuntu 17.10, which is codenamed the Artful Aardvark, is currently penciled in to ship on 19th October, 2016. The release date Ubuntu 17.10 has now been firmed up as are the other development milestones leading up to the mid-October, after a long time Ubuntu making Gnome its default desktop environment, Ubuntu community can help iron this transition from Unity to Gnome by testing pre-release version.
Artful Aardvark is a short-term support release for 9 months including selected application updates, critical security updates and bugs fixes.

The release date for Ubuntu 17.04 has now been firmed up as are the other development milestones leading up to the mid-April, currently we know that Unity 8 is going to be the interesting feature which will be shipped in 17.04 and swap partitions will likely to be replaced by swap files as mentioned by Canonical's Dimitri John Ledkov, and rest what's new coming in this release we don't know.
Zesty Zapus is a short-term support release for 9 months including selected application updates, critical security updates and bugs fixes.

Ubuntu 16.04, which is codenamed the "Xenial Xerus", is currently penciled in to release on 21rd April, 2016. The release date for Ubuntu 16.04 has now been firmed up as are the other development milestones leading up to the mid-April debut of this release, this will be 6th Long-term-support LTS release of Ubuntu, the very first LTS release was back in 2006. Ubuntu 16.04 Xenial Xerus (LTS) will use Unity 7 desktop and Linux Kernel 4.4 with updated applications, Ubuntu 16.04 will be a big focus on convergence, and many other changes planned for development over the next six months.

Ubuntu 15.10, which is codenamed the Wily Werewolf, is currently penciled in to ship on 22nd October, 2015. The release date for Ubuntu 15.10 has now been firmed up as are the other development milestones leading up to the mid-October.
Ubuntu 15.10 will be exciting cycle for new developments given its status, a big focus on convergence and Unity 8 with Mir, better systemd integration, and many other changes planned for development over the next six months.

A biggest change for Ubuntu 15.10 Snappy version will be implemented and .deb based desktop maybe going away (link):
Our plan for 15.10 (which is still being finalized, and will be discussed in more depth at UOS in a couple of weeks) is to have a build based on Snappy Personal and so the current .deb based Desktop Next image will be going away and will be replaced with the new Snappy version.
But still deb based Ubuntu images will be available.

Mark Shuttleworth was proud to announce that Ubuntu 13.10 is named Saucy Salamander and it will become the 19th release of the Ubuntu operating system.
"The salamander is one of nature’s most magical creatures; they are a strong indicator of a pristine environment, which is a fitting way to describe the new world emerging around Ubuntu Touch – new applications, a new SDK, a gorgeous clean interface."

Ubuntu 13.10's (Saucy Salamander) main target will be to enhance Ubuntu Touch's mobile UI (user interface) with new applications, a new SDK, and a gorgeous clean interface.

Canonical will no longer allow users to test Alpha releases of Ubuntu. Only the Beta version will be available for testing, which will be released on September 26, 2013.

Ubuntu being an open source initiative is bound to be a constantly changing environment. There have been around 16 releases of Ubuntu so far and the 17th is all set to roll out in April of 2013.
All its Beta release have ensured the fixing of majority of the bugs arising during user testing. We expect the final version to be released soon to incorporate a new look and feel in the Ubuntu Lineup.
