Replace gnome-screensaver with xscreensaver Ubuntu
XScreenSaver is the standard screen saver collection for Linux system running the X11 Window System.
If you want to remove gnome-screensaver, simply copy the following command in the terminal, open terminal (Alt+F2 and type: gnome-terminal) and insert following commands:
xscreensaver-demo will show the configuration dialog, that you see in system=>preferences.
Configure your standby/suspend/screen off from xscreensaver.
Now you have to add start-up entry: go to system>preferences>start-up applications, click add after entering name add command "xscreensaver -nosplash".
