There isn't much theme development going on for latest Ubuntu release since it requires theme creator to build their theme from scratch for new GTK versions, it seems development almost went away but there are still people who are giving their free time just to make your desktop elegant, make sure to support them as well. Vimix GTK themes available in dark and light version and for GTK 3.20/3.22 there are more variants which means you get more themes on latest 16.10 desktop. It is a flat Material Design theme designed for GTK 3, GTK 2 and Gnome Shell based on Flat-Plat theme, and these themes are compatible with most of the desktop environments such as Unity, Gnome, Mate, Cinnamon, Xfce, Budgie and so on. Ultimate Blue is designed to make desktop better, it's dark theme which is easy on eyes and looks great at the same time. It is compatible with Gtk 3.20/3.22/3.24 and available for Gnome, Unity, Cinnamon, Xfce, Mate and so on, it also has Gnome Shell theme. Obsidian icons used in the following screenshots. If you find any issues with this theme then report it to developer and hopefully it will get fixed in the next update. If you are using other distribution you can directly download theme from its page and install it manually in ~/.themes folder or /usr/share/themes/. You can use Gnome-tweak-tool to change themes.

A new theme suite called "Arc Theme" offers flat themes with transparent elements for Gtk 3/2 and Gnome. It is compatible with Gnome 3.22/3.20/3.18/3.16 and GTK 3.22/3.20/3.18/3.16, it works under most of the desktops environments which uses GTK engines to render the theme, such as Unity, Gnome, Cinnamon, Mate, and so on. This pack offers three versions 'Arc' which is combination of much Light and less dark colors, second is 'Arc Dark' which offers full dark color, and 3rd 'Arc Darker' also had combination of light & dark theme, you can choose theme whatever meet your requirements. This theme is not compatible with Linux Mint 17 because the version of Linux Mint 17 is based on Ubuntu 14.04 Trusty which uses old GTK version which is not compatible with this theme. Install Ming Dark with golden flavor theme in Ubuntu 13.10 Saucy/Ubuntu 13.04 Raring/Linux Mint 16/15/and other related Ubuntu derivatives (GTK + Gnome Shell + Cinnamon)

Ming is dark theme with the combination of golden color, it has fonts and matched Acyl icons to make theme complete. So everything will be install with just three commands and automatically set it up then you have to change theme/icons from tweak tools. It has themes for GTK 3.6/3.8, Gnome Shell 3.6/3.8/3.10, Cinnamon, Xfce4, it also works in Gnome Classic and Mate desktop. Ming GTK theme is derived from nokto theme, icons from Acyl suite and Cinnamon theme version is very basic.

Install Ambiance-DS-Blue GTK theme in Ubuntu 13.04 Raring/Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal/12.04/Linux Mint/other Ubuntu derivatives

Ambiance DS Blue is dark theme with blue lining. It is based on Ambiance theme and works well with current GTK versions. This theme tested on Ubuntu 13.04/12.10/12.04/11.10 but there can be some bugs with Ubuntu 13.04 GTK, It is not completely compatible with latest GTK but you can give a try.
You can use Unity Tweak Tool, Gnome-tweak-tool or Ubuntu-Tweak to change icons.

Salience is the official GTK+3/2 and Metacity theme for the LumiNight theme suite. Salience is well designed theme for Gtk and gives you nice feel on your desktop. Salience is currently an all-dark theme with some orange elements, which looks cool in Ubuntu. A variant which uses blue instead of orange, dubbed Salience Sky, is available from a Bazaar development branch on the project's Launchpad page. Maybe you will find small bugs in this theme while using with latest GTK version but still works perfect, Hopefully salience team will fix it.

Install Dorian dark theme in Ubuntu 13.04 Raring/Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal/Ubuntu 12.04 Precise/Linux Mint 14/13

Dorian is dark theme and has many of its own unique characteristics. To name a couple, hovered buttons grow in size, and insensitive buttons/widgets have a diagonal pattern distinguishing them from normal or active states. Dorian's appearance is consistent between Gtk2 and Gtk3. This theme has two metacity themes for left and right buttons.

Siva theme series is made by nale12, these themes looks really well designed and light themes. This series contains 8 variants but another modified varient made by another guy which is derived from siva-flat-dark version. Siva theme series themes support Gtk3, Gtk2, metacity, openbox and xfwm4.

Install Dark-Mint Theme on Ubuntu 12.10 Quantal/Ubuntu 12.04 Precise/Linux Mint 14/13 (GTK 3/2 + Cinnamon)

This theme is looks cool and for those who like dark themes, it is related to Linux Mint But you can install it on Ubuntu/Linux Mint/Other Ubuntu based distributions. Dark-Mint is only available for GTK 3.4/3.6 and Cinnamon. Author released this theme in two versions for GTK and Cinnamon separately, but NoobsLab added both versions in one package.
