Cinnamon is a GTK+-based desktop environment. It originally started as a fork of the GNOME Shell, which is a user interface and was initially developed by (and for) Linux Mint. Cinnamon provides many features, including: Desktop effects, including animations, Applets, Desklets, and transition effects; A movable panel equipped with a main menu, launchers, a window list and the system tray; Various extensions; Applets that appear on the panel; Overview with functions similar to that in GNOME Shell; and Settings editor for easy customization. It can customize: The panel, The calendar, Themes, Desktop effects, Applets, Extensions.
Mint team released new version 3.2 of Cinnamon with new features and bugs fixes, rich settings to enhance desktop using Cinnamon Control Center. In version 3.2, and similar to MATE or Xfce, Cinnamon is an entire desktop environment built on GNOME technologies. It still uses tool-kits and libraries such as GTK or Clutter and it is still compatible with all GNOME applications, but it no longer requires GNOME itself to be installed. It now communicates directly with its own backend services, libraries and daemons: cinnamon-desktop, cinnamon-session and cinnamon-settings-daemon.

There aren't much theme development going on for Ubuntu 16.10 Yakkety but there are still people who are doing their jobs behind the scene for you to make your desktop as fancy as possible. Since in Ubuntu 16.10 changed a lot and it takes a lot of time to rewrite the theme from scratch. Dark Aurora theme isn't dark but it looks great and it is available for Gnome Shell, Unity, Cinnamon, Xfce and compatible also with other desktops. Dark Aurora theme is kind of grayish color theme and it's easy on eyes as developer mentioned on the theme page. There are four variants in this theme and we've added all versions to PPA and supports GTK 3.12/3.14/3.16/3.20/3.22 available for Ubuntu 17.04/16.10/16.04/14.04/Linux Mint 18/17 and Gnome Shell theme versions 3.14/3.16/3.20/3.22/3.24 available. If you encounter any issues with the latest version of the theme 3.20/3.22 then report it to developer and hopefully it will get fixed in the next update If you are using other distribution you can directly download theme from its page and install it manually. You can use Unity Tweak Tool, Gnome-tweak-tool to change themes/icons.

There isn't much theme development going on now a days for latest Ubuntu version like it used to in past, we had so many themes to choose from for our beloved desktop but it is quite unfortunate. Hopefully creators will jump in eyecandy pool once again and give us those great themes taste we used to have for our Linux desktops. But there are still some people who are giving their free time to Linux eyecandy and we must appreciate them.
Chrome OS theme is basically material designed GTK theme with flat and elegant colors, it has two variants Chrome OS variant and Android OS variant but looks great on Ubuntu 16.10 and 16.04, it can also work on Linux Mint 18 desktop. It offers theme for Unity, Gnome Shell, Cinnamon, Xfce that means all major desktops are covered. If you find any kind of bug or issue within this theme then report it to creator via linked page. Many people liked the Interface of Windows 10 because now it carries all those features which Linux already have from years. Do you like the look of Windows 10 but don't want to use it? Here we brought Windows 10 GTK themes for you, this theme offers two versions Light and Dark, you can use whatever you like. But hold on, now many people will say like 'why you are so obsessed by other operating systems and so, Linux is great OS', yeah I do agree that many geeks consider Linux above all operating systems. The superiority of the Linux shows that you can do whatever you like to do with your OS, change look/design and so, that's called freedom. We should appreciate new comers to Linux instead of letting them down, and people leave Linux because they think it is quite difficult to survive with this OS.

Ceti-2 is a theme designed for GTK-3, GTK-2, and Gnome Shell. It is dark theme with the white and blue combination based on Vertex theme which makes desktop more elegant. This theme is compatible with Unity, Gnome Shell, Gnome Classic, Gnome Fallback, Cinnamon, Mate, Budgie, Pantheon, and so on.
Vertex is a theme for GTK 3, GTK 2, Gnome-Shell and Cinnamon. It supports GTK 3 and GTK 2 based desktop environments like Unity, Gnome Shell, Gnome Classic, Gnome Fallback, Cinnamon, Mate, XFCE, Budgie, Pantheon, etc. Vertex theme comes with three variants to choose from. The default variant with dark header-bars, a light variant, and a dark variant.
Both themes uses same engine to render theme properly gnome-themes-standard package for GTK-3, Murrine and pixbuf engines for the GTK-2 theme. Linux Mint team announced the latest release of Linux Mint version 17.2 code-named "Rafaela", it is updated version based on Ubuntu 14.04 LTS, and Linux Mint 17.2 now features Cinnamon 2.6/Mate 1.10, MDM 2.0, a Linux kernel 3.16 and an Ubuntu 14.04 package base. Linux Mint 17.2 will receive security updates until 2019. Until 2016, future versions of Linux Mint will use the same package base as Linux Mint 17.2, making it trivial for people to upgrade. Until 2016, the development team won't start working on a new base and will be fully focused on this one. It comes with updated software and brings refinements and many new features to make your desktop experience more comfortable to use.
"A huge amount of work was done to review the CPU usage in various parts of Cinnamon and many improvements were made. Performance was gained by optimizing how Cinnamon reacts to particular events and reducing the number of tasks or repeated tasks it performs. Support for multiple monitors was improved. Better window list actions and new key-bindings allow you to move windows to other monitors (Super+Shift with arrow keys by default). But the most significant improvement is that you can now have multiple panels and place them across multiple monitors. Applets are better than before at running multiple instances of themselves and some of them got smarter to accommodate multi-monitor/multi-panel setups. For instance a window list applet won't show you windows from another monitor if that monitor has a panel with its own window list.
MATE can now take full advantage of mixer functionality and it is able to automatically detect and support PulseAudio, ALSA and OSS.
MDM was given better support for NVIDIA Prime. On NVIDIA Optimus equipped computers, you can now switch between your Intel and your NVIDIA card with a simple log out. You no longer need to reboot. UEFI is fully supported. Note: Linux Mint does not use digital signatures and does not register to be certified by Microsoft as being a 'secure' OS. As such, it will not boot with Secure Boot. If your system is using Secure Boot, turn it off. Note: Linux Mint places its boot files in /boot/efi/EFI/ubuntu to work around this bug. This does not prevent the installation of multiple releases or distributions, or dual-boots between Ubuntu and Linux Mint, as they can all be bootable from the same GRUB menu."
